West Houston Medical Center Houston, TX

This addition and renovation project at West Houston Medical Center adds a new main entrance and two story lobby, expands cardiac services, and adds patient beds. A new three story patient tower, expandable to six floors, is designed to house a cardiac cath suite of four procedure rooms, twenty two critical care beds, and six progressive care beds. The top floor of the tower is designed as shell space for future conversion to patient beds. All floors of this new tower are designed to connect to the adjacent medical office building.

This project also includes the addition of a new second floor over existing occupied space housing the hospital’s emergency and imaging departments. This new second floor is designed to accommodate the hospital’s obstetrics program of 18 postpartum beds, 6 LDR rooms, 24 well baby bassinettes, and 8 continuing care bassinettes. A portion of the new addition is also designed to house central sterile processing and a new cardiovascular operating room. Renovations to the adjacent surgery department improve waiting areas, create a new neurological operating room, and expand the hospital’s pre-op and PACU suites. Renovations for a new endoscopy suite and the conversion of the existing endoscopy suite to patient rooms complete the project.

The additions and renovations for this project are adjacent to, and above, sensitive functioning areas of the hospital, and required that the project be designed to accommodate multiple phases of construction in order to minimize disruptions to ongoing operations.
