ounded in 1980, Gould Turner Group is an architectural, planning, and interior design firm located in Nashville, TN.  Gould Turner Group’s team of architects and designers work with clients across the country on projects that range from renovations and additions to master plans and new construction. Firm History.

Gould Turner Group was founded in 1980 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, by Mike Gould and Steve Turner. Our founders envisioned an architectural firm based on teamwork, exceptional client service, and innovative, quality design. The firm began by designing commercial projects in Colorado, and soon thereafter, entered the field of medical design. Within a year of its founding, Gould Turner Group relocated to Nashville, necessitated by obtaining the largest for-profit hospital system in the country as a client, which was also based in Nashville.

The firm grew in size and project experience, adding hospitality, education, and civic clients, as well as more healthcare clients, to its portfolio. In 1989, Gould Turner Group’s leadership transitioned to Steve Turner and Linda Marzialo to continue the legacy of the firm. Over time, Gould Turner Group intentionally deepened its commitment to designing for the healthcare and education industries.
In 2005, upon Steve Turner’s retirement, Linda Marzialo assumed leadership of the firm. Gould Turner Group’s core values remained the same as when the company began: providing quality client service and impactful design within a framework of collaboration. Gould Turner Group has an extraordinary retention rate of both employees and clients. We believe this is a direct result ofthe firm’s commitment to its guiding principles of teamwork, passion for design, quality, respect, integrity, service, and continual improvement.

In November 2019, Barge Design Solutions, Inc. (Barge) acquired Gould Turner Group, bringing together two of Nashville’s most well-established and successful A/E companies. Barge was founded in Nashville in 1955 and is ranked number 161 on Engineering News-Record’s (ENR) 2020 Top 500 Design Firms list. This multidisciplinary engineering and architecture firm is also a certified Great Place To Work® and is equally as committed to client and employee experience. Gould Turner Group will retain its name and become a division of Barge. The merger provides Gould Turner Group with a partner who has extensive engineering experience and valuable ancillary services like landscape architecture.
