Canyon Vista Medical Center is a new four-story, 106-bed, acute care hospital with an adjoining medical office building. Canyon Vista is situated on a 74-acre campus in Sierra Vista, Arizona. The design team faced the unique challenge of designing the hospital to connect to an existing outpatient surgical center on the site while keeping the center operational during construction.
The facility is designed to respect patient privacy and dignity while promoting the efficiency of use for caregivers, and providing a welcoming environment for patients and their families. Circulation within the hospital is arranged to separate patient and public traffic, and hospital departments are configured to maximize the functional relationships between them. All major ancillary services are along exterior walls for ease of future expansion.
The color scheme for the hospital takes its cue from the natural color pallet of the surrounding landscape, introducing soft hues of blues, tans, and deep oranges to the hospital’s interiors. Local art fills the public and patient areas of the facility.
Canyon Vista Medical Center, featured in several publications, including Commercial Architecture, March 2017, Healthcare Design, December 2015, and in the Sierra Vista Herald article: “Hospital Design Took in the Ideas of Many.”
