Awarded the 2017 Great Design for Furniture Application by the IIDA Nashville Chapter, the new Steinhauer-Rogan-Black Humanities Building offers students and faculty an inspiring and comfortable place to advance studies in the arts and humanities. Gould Turner Group specified colorful and engaging furniture to support inspiring environments for students to learn and faculty to teach.
Our Interiors Studio worked with the users to understand furniture needs for instruction, configurations, mobility, stacking, and durability. Throughout the project, an active dialogue between Gould Turner Group and the project’s architect resulted in a cohesive design that blended neutral tones with furniture accent colors.
The Humanities Building included specialized instructional spaces such as a recording studio/lab; drawing, ceramics and printmaking studios; instrumental and choral practice rooms; an instructional art gallery; and computer labs. There are 23 classrooms, 18 labs, 11 collaborative study areas, 56 offices, 20 adjunct faculty workrooms, and an outdoor amphitheater.
