Scope: New Hospital Addition
Wesley Medical Center is a metropolitan hospital located in the heart of Wichita. It serves as a teaching facility for the University of Kansas School of Medicine. This project added a new four-story patient care tower to the hospital’s campus. It entailed 245,000 SF of new construction and renovation and provided facilities for 78 critical care beds, women’s services, imaging, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and education. This new tower replaced the Wesley School of Nursing building, which had been operational from 1912 to 1982. In deference to the School of Nursing, elements of the new tower incorporated ornamental stone from the 1912 building. Alumni of the Nursing School raised money to pave a walkway through a newly created courtyard to commemorate graduates of their program.
This project completed nine months ahead of schedule.
